On August 15:
1925: The Edison Club buys the old J. B. McKain homestead and farm in Rexford, totaling 270 acres, for its new 27-hole golf course.
1941: About 200 women workers are affected as Ackshand Knitting Co. in Ballston Spa ends the practice of allowing caps, gloves and cloth to be knitted at home.
1969: Richie Havens, Ravi Shankar, Melanie, Sweetwater and Joan Baez are among the nine performers who open "An Aquarian Exposition: 3 Days of Peace & Music" at Max Yasgur's 600-acre dairy farm near White Lake in Bethel, Sullivan County. The legendary festival, which attracted 400,000 people, is better known as Woodstock.
