FOR AUGUST 17

In celebration of The Daily Gazette's 125th anniversary, the newspaper will publish newsworthy items from past editions and past decades.

On August 17:

1918: A thoroughbred yearling called Man o' War is sold at auction in Saratoga Springs for $5,000.

1961: Fire destroys the top floors of the south building of Nott Terrace High School. The school, built in 1913 and in use through 1958, was slated for destruction as part of Schenectady's urban renewal plan.

2017: Church leaders and members of their congregations gather outside Emmanuel Friedens Church in Schenectady for a "vigil of love and solidarity" -- a response to the violence at the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, the previous weekend.
