ALBANY -- A Schoharie County woman and a Delaware County man each received decades in prison Thursday for sexually exploiting an infant, U.S. Attorney's officials said.
Ariel Machia, 28, of Middleburgh, was sentenced to 30 years in prison, while Joshua Carey, 38, of Stamford, received 40 years, prosecutors said.
The two pleaded guilty earlier this year to sexual exploitation of a child. They admitted that they photographed one another engaged in sexually explicit conduct with a 1-year-old child in 2016.
They were arrested in February 2018 after the images they produced were recovered by law enforcement in an unrelated investigation, officials said. They have been in custody since.
Carey is also a prior registered sex offender, having previously been convicted twice for second-degree rape, officials said.
The case was investigated by the FBI and its Child Exploitation Task Force, as well as the Schoharie County Sheriff's Office, Delaware County Sheriff's Office and the New York State Police. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Lisa M. Fletcher.
