ALBANY -- A man riding a dirt bike illegally in Albany was injured Tuesday after he struck a car on South Pearl Street, police said.

The rider, identified as Andre Sutton, 23, of Albany, suffered significant cuts to his arms and road rash to his body, police said. He was hospitalized as a result.

The incident happened just after 4:30 p.m. in the area of South Pearl Street and McCarty Avenue, police said. Officers determined that Sutton had been operating the unregistered dirt bike on South Pearl Street when he collided with a vehicle attempting to turn on McCarty. Sutton was ejected from his bike.

Police also determined the dirt bike was not registered, did not have the proper safety equipment and was not legally permitted to be ridden on a public street, police said.

Police cited Sutton for unlicensed operation, unregistered motor vehicle and operating without a helmet.

He is to appear later in Albany City Traffic Court.
