A lightning strike may have caused a fire that on Wednesday damaged a house at 1476 Baker Ave. in Niskayuna.

Niskayuna District 1 Captain James Vena said Schenectady County fire investigators are investigating the cause. "They'll make the final determination," he said.

The fire was reported at 12:10 p.m. Vena said flames were contained in the attic and never broke through the roof. A woman and her pet, a small dog, escaped unharmed.

Firefighters did not identify the occupants.

Vena said about 20 firefighters from District 1, District 2 and the Schenectady Fire Department fought the fire, which was under control in about 20 minutes. Firefighters remained at the scene until about 3 p.m.
