SARATOGA SPRINGS — New Saratoga Springs Police Chief Shane Crooks will be sworn in in a ceremony at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10, at the city Recreation Center on Vanderbilt Avenue, city Public Safety Commissioner Peter R. Martin announced.
Crooks was named last week as the permanent successor to Chief Greg Veitch, who retired in May. He will be the city's 21st police chief. Deputy Chief John Catone has been the acting police chief for the last several months.
Crooks will be promoted from within the department. A 15-year member of the force, he has worked his way up from patrolman to investigator, sergeant, and most recently lieutenant in charge of the patrol division and internal investigations. Crooks, who lives in Corinth with his wife and two children, was previously a Saratoga County sheriff's deputy for six years.
"Shane has developed many strong skills in his career in law enforcement, especially his ability to communicate openly and clearly with the public as well as members of the force," Martin said. "I expect he will bring community policing and public outreach to a new level in our city."
