Duanesburg schools Superintendent Frank Macri is planning to resign in three months to take the superintendent job in Voorheesville, where he lives with his family.

Macri took charge of the district in January 2018 and is expected to depart by the mid-December 2019, according to a note from the Duanesburg school board.

In the note posted to its website Monday night, the Duanesburg school board wrote that Macri's departure "was not expected" but said he has "brought forth significant positive change and has put us down the path we had hoped for" during his short tenure.

The note highlighted Macri's work improving district communication, expanding academic and extracurricular programs and tightening security measures.

The board said it plans to conduct a superintendent search with the help of the Capital Region BOCES and promised to engage the community in the search. The board said it would hire an interim superintendent if necessary.

"We will not [choose a new superintendent] with haste, as it is of the utmost importance to us that the next superintendent here at Duanesburg Central School district continue with the advancements we have made and continue to make," the board wrote in the note.
