SCHENECTADY -- Five people have been charged in connection with the robbery of a teenager Friday night, police said.

The incident happened just before 6:30 p.m. on East Alley, according to police allegations filed in court.

The victim, 17, reported to police that five males approached the victim and then assaulted and forcefully took money and cellphone, police said. Police were initially dispatched to nearby Waverly Place, police said.

Police responded to the area and a search located the five suspects a short time later in the parking lot of Schenectady High School, police said.

Those charged were identified as Curtis White, 20, of Albany; Asaud I. Ince, 18, of Schenectady; Mantrell Batson, 18, of Albany; Tyree Currie, 17, of Schenectady, and Nigel Brooks, 17, of Albany.

Each of the five was charged with one count of second-degree robbery, a felony.

Brooks was also charged with one count of fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a misdemeanor, accused of possessing the victim's stolen phone.

Police made the arrests in the high school parking lot at the same time Schenectady High was playing host to Albany-based Green Tech High School. The football game had kicked off at 6 p.m.
