COLONIE - Colonie officers Saturday arrested a Utica man after receiving a report of someone taking items from an unlocked vehicle, police said.

The incident happened just after 3 a.m. on Greenleaf Drive, police said. A resident spotted him and called police, police said.

Police responded and found the suspect in a neighboring backyard, hiding on a second floor deck, police said.

Police identified the suspect as Daven P. Walters, 28, of Utica.

He faces one count each of third-degree criminal trespass and attempted petit larceny, misdemeanors.

Walters was also wanted by Scheenctady Police on three misdemeanor charges. He was processed in Colonie and turned over to Schenectady, police said.

"This arrest highlights the importance of the assistance of our citizens and the need to lock up your vehicles and valuables," police said in a release. "This defendant is most likely only one of several people or groups that are going through unlocked vehicles in the Town of Colonie."
