Robert Schneider of Gansevoort on Monday was named the new executive director of the New York State School Boards Association, where he has worked as the association's finance and operations manager.

Schneider will replace Tim Kremer, who is set to retire from the position Jan. 1 after 21 years in the job. Schneider will lead the group that lobbies and advocates on the behalf of school boards across the state.

Schneider has served as the association's associate executive director and chief operating officer since 2014 after serving as finance director for 15 years. He also spent seven years working for the New York State Hospitality & Tourism Assocation, holding various positions. He graduated with a business administration degree from Siena College.

"Bob Schneider and I have worked side-by-side for 20 years," Kremer said in a statement. "He knows our issues, our organization, our staff and our members.
