Opel says her interactions with current and retired employees are part of what she enjoys most about her job. She’s also proud to play a crucial role in the newspaper, which remains an independent voice for the city of Schenectady and its surrounding communities.
While she has a number of memories from more than four decades of employment with The Gazette, it’s the many friendships she’s formed during her long tenure here, and the paper’s big move in 1990 from State Street to its present headquarters on Maxon Road Extension, that she remembers most.
