SCHENECTADY - A substance in the road later identified as hydraulic fluid led to a multi-car pileup late Tuesday morning in Schenectady, police said.
Though four total cars were involved in the crash, no injuries were reported, police said.
The crash happened just before 11:30 a.m. off the Interstate 890 exit at Broadway. The cars piled up at the spot where the exit curves toward Broadway toward downtown.
Officers responded and found four vehicles involved, police spokesman Sgt. Jeffrey McCutcheon said. Earlier information suggested five were involved.
The investigation int the crash led to the hydraulic fluid in the road, McCutcheon said. An unknown vehicle appeared to start leaking the fluid in the area of Exit 6 westbound and the leak continued on to the Broadway exit, causing the slick conditions the led to the crash at the exit's intersection with Broadway, McCutcheon said.
The relevant agencies were notified, including the Department of Environmental Conservation. The impacted areas of roadway were cleaned and the area later reopened, McCutcheon said.
