SCHENECTADY - City police are advising residents to watch out for thefts from cars after a recent increase in the activity, police said Wednesday.

Police on Facebook advised that residents ensure vehicles are locked and any valuable items secured out of view.

The advisory came amid an increase the department has seen in thefts from cars throughout the city. The thefts do not appear to center on any particular area of the city, police said.

"Of particular concern are several incidents where someone has broken a car window to steal valuables inside," police wrote.

Police asked residents to report any suspicious activity to dispatchers, 911 for emergencies and 518-630-0911 for non-emergencies.
