High schools: Burnt Hills football rolls to win over Mohonasen

Caeden LaPietro ran for 142 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries, and the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake football team threw a defensive shutout in a 49-6 Class A Grasso Division win over Mohonasen Saturday.

Five other Spartans scored touchdowns, and LaPietro, Matt Seidel and Ty McHerron had interceptions as part of their defensive effort.

Eric Starr returned a kickoff 83 yards for the lone Mohonasen (1-4) touchdown. Burnt Hills improved to 4-1 in the division.

Queensbury (5-0) beat Gloversville 52-15 in a Class A Grasso Division game behind Jason Rodrigiez’s five touchdowns.

Nick Gicewicz and Derek Martelle both ran for two touchdowns in Bethlehem’s 30-0 Class AA win over Colonie.

Kareem Duncan scored on two short runs, and Watervliet defeated Voorheesville 22-0 in Class C action.

Joey Tortello completed 14 of 17 passes for 342 yards and five touchdowns, and Holy Trinity went to 5-0 with a 49-28 non-classification win at Cambridge/Salem (4-1). Nacier Hundley and Noah Foster scored three touchdowns apiece for the Pride.

John Mancini was 14 of 17 passing for 190 yards and three touchdowns, plus rushed for 113 yards and a touchdown in Fonda-Fultonville’s 34-0 non-classification football win against Helderberg Valley.

In boys’ soccer, Noah Fagnani scored three goals, and Schoharie beat Amsterdam 4-0 in the first round of its annual Kyle Sharpe Memorial Tournament. Stillwater beat Delaware Academy 2-1 in the other tourney opener on goals by Harry Rubinstein and Brendan DeBacco.

At the girls’ Kyle Sharpe Tournament, Unatego and Schoharie played to a 3-3 tie before Unatego advanced on penalty kicks. Katie Krohn had two goals for Schoharie. Little Falls beat Delaware Academy 3-1 in the other first-round contest.

The Galway girls’ volleyball team won its Folds of Honor Tournament after going 6-0 in pool play and then topping Waterford-Halfmoon 25-16, 25-21 in the semifinals and Fort Edward 23-25, 25-4, 15-6 in the title match. Julia Reedy had 53 kills and 32 digs for Galway, and Hannah Hoffman collected 50 service points and 84 assists.

The Mohonasen girls’ cross country team won the Paul Short Invitational White Division championship at the Lehigh University where Kate Sherman placed third and Natalia Sawyer placed eighth.
