SCHENECTADY — Who has the best wings in the city?

On Saturday, that honor went to 20 North Broadway Tavern, according to the participants in the sold-out 8th Annual Wing Walk through downtown Schenectady.

A total of 22 locations served up a wide selection of chicken wing recipes. Guests were encouraged to cast votes for their favorite wing flavor; more than 1,300 votes were cast in special locked ballot boxes place around downtown.

After all ballots were counted following the event, the 2019 Wing Walk winner by popular vote was 20 North Broadway Tavern for its Medium Garlic Gouda Wing. Second place went to The Backstage Pub for its Smoked Caramel Bacon Bourbon Wing. Third place went to Ya Ya’s House Southern Cuisine for its Original Southern Fried Wing.

In addition to the popular vote, a panel of special guest judges from regional food blogs rated wings in several categories. Judges were Jess Sims, 518 Bites & Sights; Tim Walton, Tim’s NY Kitchen; and Greg Anastasio, Fussy Little Blog. Judges’ picks were:

Judges’ Top Wing: The Backstage Pub, Smoked Caramel Bacon Bourbon Wing

Most Creative Wing: Mad Jack Brew Pub @ The Van Dyck, Maple Peanut Butter and Honey Sriracha Wing

Best Sauce or Dry Rub: (tie) Grano, Crispy Orange Ginger Wing; and Mexican Radio, Raspberry Chipotle Wing

The 8th Annual Wing Walk was presented by the Downtown Schenectady Improvement Corporation in partnership with Proctors.

The 9th Annual Wing Walk in Downtown Schenectady will take place on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2020.
