SARATOGA SPRINGS -- A 44-year-old Albany man was killed Tuesday night in a two-vehicle collision on Route 9 in Saratoga Springs.

City police on Wednesday identified the man as Derrick Devonish.

Officers said Devonish, driving a Nissan Altima, left the parking lot of the Homewood Suites hotel at about 9:30 p.m. and headed south on Route 9 in the northbound lane. The Altima, police said, then struck a northbound Toyota Rav4 sport utility vehicle driven by William Halpin, 34, of Saratoga Springs.

Devonish later was pronounced dead at Saratoga Hospital.

Police said Halpin suffered non life-threatening injuries and was taken to Saratoga Hospital for treatment.

The accident occurred just south of the hotel. Both vehicles suffered heavy front end damage.

Police, who said alcohol is not believed to be a factor, said the cause of the accident remains under investigation.

Members of the Saratoga County Sheriff's Department and New York State Park Police assisted at the accident scene.
