CANAJOHARIE - A Canajoharie man has been arrested, accused of physically assaulting a 9-month-old child in his care, state police said.
Zachary P. Folts, 23, was arrested Thursday and charged with one count of reckless assault of a child, a felony.
Folts is accused of recklessly causing serious injury the child while the child was in his care in March, according to a state police release and arrest log.
The investigation began when emergency services were called to a residence in the town of Canajoharie for an unresponsive infant, state police said. A release did not indicate the date of the call, but the state police arrest log placed the date and time the incident was reported as 9:19 p.m. March 6.
Responding paramedics took the infant to Albany Medical Center via helicopter and the child was treated for "injuries consistent with physical abuse," state police said.
The state police release did not give an update on the condition of the child.
Folts was arraigned and released on $2,500 bail. He is due back in court later this month.
