BALLSTON SPA -- A Moreau woman accused of setting her residence on fire was indicted Monday by a Saratoga County grand jury.
Melissa R. LaPoint, 40, of 35 Spier Falls Road, was indicted on charges including second-degree arson, third-degree arson, second-degree reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child.
The charges stem from an Aug. 16 fire at the Sisson Reserve Apartments in Moreau, according to what the Saratoga County Sheriff's Department said when she was arrested in December. LaPoint is accused of starting multiple fires in her apartment that damaged the building and a vehicle, in what deputies said was part of a plan to file an insurance claim. She is accused of doing so with multiple people present in the building, including her 5-year-old child, officials said. No injuries were reported.
The indictment moves the case from local court to Saratoga County Court for further proceedings.
