SCHENECTADY - A garage fire on a property behind Central Park Middle School Wednesday morning prompted an evacuation of the school, officials said.

No injuries were reported in the garage fire and all students have since returned to the school, according to officials and information available at the scene.

The fire broke out around 8:30 a.m. behind 322-324 Division St. The property is almost directly behind Central Park Middle School.

Firefighters arrived to find the garage fully engulfed and then worked to extinguish it.

The close proximity of the fire to the school led students there to be evacuated. The students went to the district's evacuation sites nearby, at Lincoln and Keene schools, district spokeswoman Karen Corona said.

Students remained out of the school for about an hour and have since returned, she said.
