SARATOGA SPRINGS -- City police Officer Glenn Barrett will serve as Saratoga Springs High School school resource officer effective Nov. 18, Assistant Police Chief John Catone said in a message Thursday.
Barrett has served in the department for 19 years, most recently as a senior member of the department's mounted unit patrolling Broadway on horseback.
After a transition through the calendar year, Barrett will replace Office Lloyd Davis, who has served as a school-based resource officer since 2011. Davis, who requested the reassignment, will return to the department's patrol division, according to the announcement.
Saratoga police officers Amy Evertsen and Aaron Moore were trained as school resource officers along with Barrett, so they can assist Barrett as needed or in the future serve directly in schools.
"Having additional officers trained in an SRO capacity will be extremely beneficial should the Saratoga Springs School District decide to expand the present SRO program," Catone wrote in the announcement.
