ALBANY - A Saratoga Springs man was sentenced this week to more than seven years in state prison for receiving child pornography, U.S. Attorney's officials said.

Kyle Caton, 31, pleaded guilty earlier and received a total of 7 years, 4 months in federal prison at his sentencing Wednesday, prosecutors said.

Caton admitted earlier that his offense involved more than 600 images depicting the sexual exploitation of children as young as toddlers and that he purchased child pornography via an encrypted web site not accessible via ordinary online search engines, officials said.

Senior U.S. District Judge Thomas J. McAvoy imposed the total 88-month sentence, as well as a 15-year term of supervised release. The judge also ordered Caton to pay $12,000 in restitution to child pornography victims, officials said.

Caton had been enlisted in the U.S. Navy prior to his arrest and he was discharged as a result of his crimes, officials said.

The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and prosecuted by assistant U.S. Attorney Shira Hoffman as part of Project Safe Childhood.
