SCHENECTADY - Police are on the scene of a shooting Wednesday evening on Union Street, the department said.

Police described the victim as a man in his 20s and indicated he was taken to Albany Medical Center via ambulance.

The shooting happened on Union, between Park Avenue and Wendell Avenue, after 6 p.m., police said on Twitter

Officers in the area could be seen focusing on one residence and one officer could be seen carrying a police shield from the building.

Police at the scene also appeared to detain a man. The police tweet did not indicate whether anyone was in custody.

"Further as it becomes available," the department wrote.
