Ten teams and seven individuals will represent Section II at the New York State Federation Cross Country Championships Saturday at Bowdoin Park in Wappingers Falls.
Among the teams competing will be the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake boys' and the Saratoga Springs girls' teams, which both ran to titles at the 2017 meet. That Federation title was the 23rd for Saratoga. The 2018 Federation meet was canceled due to heavy snowfall in Dutchess County.
The Burnt Hills boys' program captured its fourth straight Class B state championship this past Saturday at SUNY Plattsburgh, while the Saratoga girls' team was the Class A team runner-up to Fayetteville-Manlius. Burnt Hills is anchored by Ryan Allison who was third at the state meet, and Saratoga is led by Ella Kurto, who was sixth at the state event.
Other Section II boys' teams competing will be from Guilderland, Shaker and Saratoga Springs. Other Section II girls' teams will be from Shenendehowa, Shaker, Bethlehem, Niskayuna and Mohonasen, which features Section II Class B champion Kate Sherman.
Section II individuals competing will be Faith DeMars of Ballston Spa, Logan Barsalow of Averill Park, Tess Fitzmaurice of Greenville, Class D state runner-up Madison Relyea of Mayfield, Class C state runner-up Gitch Hayes of La Salle, Shazim Permaul of Schenectady and Noah Greski of Scotia-Glenville.
Section II's last Federation individual champions were Noah Carey of Guilderland and Kelsey Chmiel of Saratoga. Each won in 2016.
