LOWELL, Mass. — Fifteenth-ranked UMass Lowell scored twice in the first period Friday and cruised to a 4-0 men’s college hockey victory over RPI in the first round of the Turkey Leg Classic at Tsongas Center.

Zach Kaiser opened the scoring for the River Hawks (8-3-4) less than four minutes into the game. Jon McDonald made it a two-goal lead with 13:22 left in the period.

After a scoreless second period, Connor Sodergren sealed the win for UMass Lowell in the third. He scored 1:57 into the period, and added a second goal with 5:30 left.

River Hawks goalie Tyler Wall stopped 23 shots to earn the shutout.

RPI goalie Linden Marshall made 21 saves.

The Engineers travel to Merrimack for the second round of the Turkey Leg Classic tonight at 7.

ERIE, Pa. — Summer-Rae Dobson scored 36 seconds into sudden-death overtime to give the Lakers a non-conference win over the Dutchwomen.

Emily Pinto scored twice in the first period for Mercyhurst (8-4-1). Emma Michalicka got Union (2-10-2) on the board with 7:30 left in the first.

Grace Heiting tied it for the Dutchwomen with 6:13 remaining in the second period, but Alexa Vasko regained the lead for the Lakers late in the period.

Maia Martinez’s goal 6:38 into the third made it 3-3.
