NEW BRITAIN, Conn. — A day after the UAlbany football team beat Central Connecticut in the first round of the NCAA FCS playoffs, it was the Great Danes women’s basketball team turn to do the same against the Blue Devils.

Alexi Schecter scored 23 points Sunday, leading the Great Danes to a 73-63 non-conference victory over the Blue Devils at Detrick Gymnasium.
It was the second straight win for UAlbany (3-5).

Schecter shot 6-for-14 from the field and 11-for-13 from the foul line.

The Great Danes trailed 10-2 early in the first quarter. They were down 28-24 at halftime, but came back to tie it 45-45 after three quarter. The Great Danes outscored the Blue Devils (0-6) 28-18 in the fourth quarter.

Amanda Kantzy and Helene Haegerstrand each scored 12 points for UAlbany, which returns to SEFCU Arena at 5 p.m. Wednesday to face Fairleigh Dickinson.
