HALFMOON - A Mechanicville man attacked a person with a shovel during an argument this week in Halfmoon, state police said Thursday.

Yongjie Jiang, 57, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with one count of second-degree assault, a felony, and misdemeanor weapons possession.

The incident happened at about 12:40 p.m. Tuesday at a business complex on State Route 9, state police said. Troopers responded for a report of a fight in progress.

An investigation determined that Jiang arrived at the complex and began arguing with one of the employees of a business located there. During the argument, Jiang knocked the victim to the ground and began kicking the victim, state police said. When the victim’s husband intervened Jiang allegedly struck him with a shovel.

Jiang was released to appear in court at a later date.
