BOZEMAN, Mont. — The UAlbany football team got off to a great start in its FCS Playoffs second-round game Saturday against Montana State by taking a 7-0 lead 1:08 into the game.

Then the Bobcats took control. They scored 47 straight points and rolled to a 47-21 victory over the Great Danes at Bobcat Stadium.

UAlbany ends the season 9-5.

The Great Danes took the lead on a 58-yard touchdown pass from Jeff Undercuffler to Juwan Green. The Bobcats (10-3) responded when Travis Jonsen scored on a 47-yard run.

After stopping the Great Danes on their next series, the Bobcats’ Isaiah Ifanse blocked a punt, and the ball rolled out of the end zone for a safety.
Both sides of the ball started to click for Montana State. Kevin Kassis hauled in a 5-yard TD pass from Tucker Rovig, Ifanse ran for a 12-yard touchdown on an 85-yard drive, while Tristan Bailey connected on a 19-yard field goal to give the Bobcats a 26-7 halftime lead.

Bobcats receiver Lance McCutcheon caught TD passes of 49 and 42 yards in the third quarter. A seven-play, 75-yard drive, capped by a 3-yard TD run by Logan Jones put the Bobcats up 47-7 with 10:43 remaining in the game.

Undercuffler was 18 of 37 for 273 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. Juwan Green finished the contest with a team-high 123 yards, marking his seventh game with 100-plus receiving yards.

“Congratulations to Montana State for playing a great football game,” UAlbany football coach Greg Gattuso said. “I have to take off my hat to them and their fans, they really brought the energy. From our end, I think the kicking game got us into a bit of trouble. We had a blocked punt, which resulted in a safety for them and that began to swing the momentum. Defensively, we battled the entire game. Our guys gave us a shot to close the gap before halftime, but in the end, we just couldn’t push through.

“At the end of the day, I just love this football team. I am extremely proud of them and what they have done this year. We are building something special here at UAlbany and these guys are a huge part of that.”
