ALBANY  -- The Albany Police Department is investigating the apparent murder of a 33-year-old man who was shot in the abdomen Saturday morning.

Police issued a Facebook post Saturday evening announcing the investigation. Police said the shooting occurred sometime Saturday morning at the intersection of Second and Judson streets, but the man did not die there.

"At approximately 11 a.m., staff from Albany Medical Center Hospital notified police that a man had entered the emergency room with an apparent gunshot wound to the abdomen," police said in the written statement on Saturday. "The victim, age 33, succumbed to his injuries this evening at the hospital."

Police said the investigation is continuing and the victim's name will not be released until family notifications have been made.
