Stillwater senior Brooke Pickett and Bethlehem eighth-grader Claire Hutton have earned player of the year honors for their soccer exploits from the New York State Sportswriters and Coaches Organization for Girls Sports.

The NYSSCOGS announced all-state teams in five classes Monday, with nine Section II athletes gaining first-team nods led by Pickett and Hutton.

Pickett was the Class C Player of the Year as a junior, and this year shares the award with Marion senior Chloe DeLyser. Pickett scored 58 goals this year to boost her career total to 208, which is No. 2 on the all-time Section II list, and led the Warriors to their second consecutive state championship.

DeLyser produced 76 goals this year and 336 in her career, which are the most goals ever scored by a female high school soccer player in the United States. DeLyser scored her final goal, and Pickett notched her last two including the game-winner, in a state semifinal contest when Stillwater edged Marion 3-2.

Unatego coach and Middleburgh graduate Sue Herodes was selected the Class C Coach of the Year after guiding her team to its first state final four. Stillwater beat Unatego 1-0 in the title game.

Hutton was tabbed the state Class AA Player of the Year after collecting 37 goals and 18 assists, and leading Bethlehem to its second straight Section II title. Hutton was previously named the Suburban Council Offensive Player of the Year, the first eighth-grader to have that honor.

Section II’s other all-state first-team selections are Olivia Piraino of Niskayuna (Class AA), Liv Raucci of Mohonasen (Class A), Sofia Cassano of Schalmont (Class B), Keelyn Peacock of Stillwater (Class C), Megan Krohn of Schoharie (Class C), Britney Moore of Northville (Class D) and Emily Schafer of New Lebanon (Class D).

Raucci had 44 goals and 26 assists for Section II champion Mohonasen, and Cassano had 47 goals and 34 assists for Section II titlist Schalmont.
In a Foothills Council girls’ basketball game Monday, Hope Sullivan scored 11 points including the 1,000th of her career in Queensbury’s 58-35 win over Hudson Falls. Hailey

Ballard topped 3-0 Queensbury with 19 points.
