CLIFTON PARK -- A commercial firework was found this week inside a Clifton Park home's mailbox and state police are asking for the public's help in investigating the incident.
State police collected the firework and disposed of it, state police said. Troopers said they do not believe there is any ongoing danger to the community.
The firework was discovered shortly before 6 p.m. Wednesday at a home on LaCosta Drive in the Country Knolls neighborhood, state police said.
Troopers responded to the area for a report of suspected explosives located in a homeowner's mailbox. The item was located by an occupant of the home, who removed it from the mailbox and brought it to the homeowner, state police said.
The homeowner then placed it in a snowbank and called police.
The investigation determined the object was a commercial firework wrapped in duct tape. The person who located the item also told police they had heard a firework go off in the middle of the night a few weeks prior, but did not report it, state police said.
Troopers have been interviewing area residents. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact state police at 518-383-8583.
