SCHENECTADY — The Union College women’s hockey team did a good job of keeping most of the Bemidji State players from scoring a goal on Saturday.

But the Dutchwomen couldn’t contain Haley Mack.

Mack scored a natural hat trick, and the Beavers held on for a 3-2 non-conference victory at Messa Rink.

The win gave Bemidji State (11-8-1) a sweep of the two-game weekend series. The Beavers won Friday’s game 2-1.

Bemidji State went 4-0 in the Capital Region thiss eason. The Beavers took two games from RPI at Houston Field House Nov. 29-30.

Haley gave the Beavers a 1-0 lead with 18 seconds left in the first period. She made it 2-0 2:50 into the second period when she put in the rebound of an Ellie Moser shot.

Mack completed her hat trick with 8:42 in the second, a goal that chased Union starting goalie Bella McKee from the game. Amelia Murray replaced her, and stopped all 13 shots she faced in the game.

Union (2-14-3) mounted a comeback with 1:27 left in the second when Megan Ryan scored on a two-player advantage.

Rachel de Perio, who assisted on Ryan’s goal, scored an unassisted tally 1:51 into the third period.

Union will be off until Jan. 3, when it visits ECAC Hockey-foe Harvard.

Union women’s head coach Josh Sciba will be busy during Christmas week. For the second straight year, Sciba is serving as an assistant coach for the women’s USA Under-18 team at the IIHF World Under-18 Championships in Bratislava, Slovakia. The tournament runs from Dec. 26 to Jan. 2.

Team USA won the silver medal in last year’s tournament.
