ROTTERDAM -- A driver was seriously hurt early Monday after a crash between a car and a semi truck on the Thruway in Rotterdam, state police said.
The crash happened at about 1:15 a.m. near the 166.4 mile marker on Interstate 90 eastbound, state police said.
The state police preliminary investigation determined a 2015 Freightliner tractor trailer was driving in the right lane when it hit the rear of a 2013 Tesla Roadster. The Tesla had been stopped on the south shoulder and abruptly re-entered traffic when it was struck, state police said.
State police identified the driver of the tractor trailer as Chernor Bah, 51, of Lindenwold, N.J. He was taken to Albany Medical Center by Rotterdam EMS for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, state police said.
The driver of the Tesla was identified as Armani Pizzaro, 19, of Harlem. He was taken by Med-Flight helicopter to Albany Medical Center with injuries state police described as serious. A state police release later Monday morning did not have an update on his condition.
The crash remained under investigation Monday.
