NEW YORK — He got the go-ahead to play, then he scored the go-ahead point.

UAlbany redshirt sophomore Cameron Healy was questionable to play on Monday because of a hip injury suffered against Monmouth on Dec. 22.

Head coach Will Brown made a game-time decision to use Healy, and the decision paid off when Healy delivered a free throw with less than a second left to give the Great Danes a 67-66 win over Columbia at Levien Gymnasium.

UAlbany (7-8) won a true road game for the first time this season in wrapping up its non-conference schedule.

The Great Danes trailed by six with 1:22 to play, but scored six points in a span of 12 seconds capped by Healy’s free throw.

“We didn’t execute for the first 39 minutes of the game,” Brown said. “I’m proud of my guys’ effort, but we didn’t play well.  We hung around and we lengthened the game, and we executed in the last minute.  We made some plays down the stretch, but it was an ugly one.”

The Blue Devils (4-10) went up by five after hitting two free-throws with 47 seconds remaining.

Ahmad Clark drew a foul and hit both free throws to bring UAlbany within three, Columbia responded with two free throws, then  Clark hit a deep 3 to get within two, only to see Columbia drain two more free throws to go up by four with 12 seconds left.

Clark connected on a driving layup with 1.2 seconds left to tie the game at 66-66, and Columbia threw the ball away on the ensuing inbounds play. Healy was fouled with less than one second left, drained the first free throw and intentionally missed the second as the clock ran out.

Clark finished with 16 points, and Mike Smith scored 28 for Columbia.
