ALBANY -- College of Saint Rose men's basketball player Sekou Sylla has been voted the NCAA Division II Men's Player of the Week by the United States Basketball Writers Association.
Sylla averaged 26 points and 15.5 rebounds for the Golden Knights last week while shooting 53.8 percent (21 of 39) from the field.
In an 80-59 loss Wednesday against American International, Sylla scored 32 points and grabbed a career-high 21 rebounds. That was followed Saturday with 20 points, 10 rebounds and a career-high five assists in a 93-74 win over Assumption.
Sylla leads the Northeast-10 Conference in both scoring and rebounding at 21.1 points and 12.1 boards per game. His rebounding average ranks third in the country and he leads the nation with 13 double-doubles. Over his last seven games, Sylla is averaging 25.4 points and 13.4 rebounds
Sylla and the Golden Knights (4-12, 1-6 NE-10) return to action Wednesday at home against Saint Michael's.
