FORT PLAIN - A Palatine man has been arrested in a felony drug sale case, Montgomery County Sheriff's officials said Wednesday.

Michael Allen Shostek, 34, of Wagners Hollow Road, Palatine, was arrested on one count each of third-degree criminal possession and sale of a controlled substance, felonies.

A warrant for his arrest had been issued for him and officials announced his arrest Wednesday. A release did not provide further specifics about Shostek's case.

The release, however, described Shostek's arrest as an additional arrest stemming from Montgomery County Drug Task Force investigations into drug sales throughout the county.

Shostek was arraigned and released on his own recognizance, officials said.

Sheriff's officials last month announced six area people were arrested as a result of a nine-month investigation into drug sales in the county centered in Fort Plain.

Four of those arrested then were from Fort Plain and one each from Canajoharie and Amsterdam.

The task force includes the police departments in St. Johnsville, Fort Plain, Canajoharie and Amsterdam, as well as the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department, the state police, the federal Drug Enforcement Administration and the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office.

The December arrests came after Amsterdam police and the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department Regional SWAT Team executed a search warrant on Abbott Street in Fort Plain, the residence of 60-year-old Sharon Hoffman, officials said.

Inside, investigators found more than $23,000 in cash believed to be the direct result of drug sales, a long barreled gun, a pistol pellet handgun, 2.5 pounds of marijuana, marijuana smoking paraphernalia and a small amount of cocaine, officials said.

Those arrested in December:

  • Sharon M. Hoffman, 60, of Fort Plain, third-degree criminal possession and sale of a controlled substance, felonies, and fourth-degree criminal sale of marijuana, a misdemeanor.
  • Owan J. Yerdon, 21, of Fort Plain, third-degree criminal possession and sale of a controlled substance, felonies.
  • April D. Moylan, 37, of Fort Plain, third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, a felony.
  • Joneen M. Rossi, 32, of Fort Plain, third-degree criminal possession and sale of a controlled substance, felonies.
  • Ricky A. Wadsworth, 62, of Canajharie, third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, a felony.
  • Levelle Peterson, 37, of Amsterdam, third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, a felony, and a parole violation.
