MALTA — The annual Holiday Match campaign by Stewart’s Shops to help nonprofit children’s organizations totalled $1.8 million in 2019.

From Thanksgiving Day through Christmas Day, the Malta-based convenience store chain accepts customer donations at its 336 locations, then matches the total with an equal donation of its own. This holiday season, customers donated over $895,000, yielding a combined total of over $1.79 million.

As is his custom, company President Gary Dake will don the Stewart’s shirt and work with hourly employees to celebrate the campaign. 

On Friday, he’ll work at the Ballard Road shop in Gansevoort, which at $6,307 had one of the highest single-store donation totals. On Jan. 31, he’ll work at the Quaker Road store in Queensbury, which had one of the biggest increases in donations over 2018, at 67.6 percent.

This season’s total was down from the record $2.06 million raised in 2018, all of which was distributed 1,830 organizations, with no administrative costs deducted.

Stewart’s reminded all qualified locally 501c3 charitable organizations that benefit children to apply at stewartsshops.com for a share of the $1.8 million raised in 2019. The deadline is Jan. 31.
