MECHANICVILLE -- A Mechanicville man fled police Monday and then crashed into a parked car, police said.

No injuries were reported.

The driver, identified as Gage M. Rodriguez, 20, was arrested and charged with unlawful fleeing a police officer and reckless driving, and endangering the welfare of a child, misdemeanors, as well as other offenses. He was issued an appearance ticket and released.

The incident began about 3:15 p.m. on North Central Avenue when an officer attempted to stop Rodriguez after observing him travel at a high rate of speed, police said.

Instead of stopping, Rodriguez sped off, police said. During his flight, he cut through a business parking lot and crashed into a parked vehicle while trying to turn onto Spring Street, police said.

Rodriguez had a 16-year-old passenger in the car at the time, police said. The passenger was the basis for the child endangerment count.

Rodriguez was taken into custody without further incident, police said.
