SCHENECTADY COUNTY -- Schenectady County recently awarded a total of $50,000 in funding to a dozen of the county's volunteer fire companies.
The money was awarded for items like purchasing radio headsets, training equipment, fire operations equipment, medical equipment, diagnostic equipment, and safety equipment -- all with the goal of improving their abilities to respond to large storms, natural disasters and everyday responses.
The receiving departments included Beukendaal, Glenville Hills, West Glenville, East Glenville, Thomas Corners and Alplaus, all located in the town of Glenville; Rotterdam Dist. 2, Rotterdam Junction, South Schenectady, and Pattersonville, all located in Rotterdam; and Niskayuna Fire Districts 1 and 2.
"Local fire departments are often on the front lines when it comes to keeping our communities safe during emergencies," said County Legislator Thomas Constantine, D-Niskayuna, chairman of the Committee on Public Safety and Firefighting. "These county grants help ensure the departments have the equipment they need to do their job and stay safe while doing it."
