A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for much of the region in advance of a storm that could drop up to five inches of snow and sleet in spots, according to the National Weather Service.

The advisory covers Schenectady, Saratoga, Fulton, Montgomery and Schoharie counties. It begins at 10 p.m. Wednesday and is to extend until 7 p.m. Thursday.

A mix of precipitation is expected in the storm, the service said. Snow and sleet accumulations are expected to run from two to five inches and ice accumulations of a glaze, the service said.

Residents should plan on slippery road conditions that could impact the morning or evening commutes, the service said.

Also, snowfall rates of up to an inch per hour are possible, the service said.
