BALLSTON -- A Schenectady man in the country illegally has been charged with breaking into a Ballston home, Saratoga County sheriff's officials said.
Lazaro Martinez-Ramirez, 35, of Schenectady, was arrested early Tuesday and charged with second-degree burglary, a felony, along with misdemeanor assault and criminal mischief, officials said.
The incident happened at about 12:30 a.m. at a residence on Saratoga Road in Ballston, officials said. Responding deputies determined Martinez-Ramirez had illegally entered the residence by damaging a window. He then assaulted the resident, officials allege. Officials characterized the incident as domestic in nature.
Martinez-Ramirez was brought for arraignment, but the proceedings were adjourned in order to get an an interpreter.
Martinez-Ramirez was also found to be in the country illegally and turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement for removal proceedings. He was taken by ICE to the Rensselaer County Jail.
