Mechanicville man charged with attempted grand larceny

GUILDERLAND -- A  Mechanicville was arrested after he attempted to commit fraud by threatening a lawsuit over not getting a job he never even sought, according to police.

On Feb. 29, New York State Police in Latham arrested 42-year-old Richie F. Levine. He was charged with fourth-degree attempted grand larceny, a felony, and second-degree attempted scheme to defraud, a misdemeanor.

Troopers said they were contacted by a resident of Guilderland who was concerned about correspondence that was received from Levine. It is alleged that the correspondence threatened legal action if the intended victim did not agree to a financial settlement for failing to hire him for a job. An investigation determined that the intended victim had never met Levine and had not posted a job offering.

Levine was located at his residence in Mechanicville and taken into custody. He is due to appear in Guilderland Town Court on March 12.
