LOUDONVILLE – Siena men’s basketball forward Elijah Burns has been bestowed with the final MAAC Player of the Week Award of the 2019-20 season.

A graduate student from Troy, Burns averaged 19.0 points and 8.0 rebounds in two wins last week to help Siena earn the MAAC regular season championship. Burns also earned MAAC Player of the Week honors in late December, giving Siena five weekly honors this season with teammate Jalen Pickett earning the award on three occasions.

During the week, Burns shot 72% from the field in wins over Niagara and Monmouth. He tallied 24 points and 10 rebounds in Wednesday’s home win over Niagara, then scored 14 points without missing a shot — 4 of 4 from the field and 5 of 5 from the free throw line — in Friday’s win over Monmouth that allowed Siena to clinch its first regular season title in a decade.

Through the regular season, Burns leads the MAAC in field goal percentage (.626) and ranks seventh in scoring at 14.6 points per game.

Burns and Siena will be the No. 1 seed in the MAAC tournament this week in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The Saints will be in action Wednesday night at 7 p.m. with a quarterfinal contest against the winner of Tuesday’s 5 p.m. first-round game between No. 8 Fairfield and No. 9 Manhattan.
