ALBANY - A staff member at Albany Medical College has now tested positive for COVID-19.
The positive tests results from exposure outside the facility, officials said.
The staff member is the only confirmed staff member case of COVID-19 there, officials said.
"This individual works in an area not connected to patient care and is now under self-quarantine at home," Albany Med said in a release. "Albany Med is working with the Albany County Health Department to contact any colleagues who may have come in close contact with this staff member."
The staff member sought medical attention after experiencing symptoms of a respiratory infection and was tested, Albany Med said.
"It is imperative that any person with a fever and/or respiratory symptoms stay home and contact their primary care provider," Albany Med said. "Limiting exposure is critical to prevent the further spread of COVID-19."
Albany Med has been prepared for a potential case, officials said. Following that plan, the person's work area is being cleaned and disinfected.
"Albany Med remains committed to caring for our community as the situation surrounding COVID-19 continues to rapidly evolve," the release reads.
