MOREAU - A Thursday traffic stop on the Northway in Moreau led to the discovery of an estimated 100,000 in untaxed cigarettes and the arrests of two men, state police said.

The incident happened just after 6 p.m. when troopers stopped a vehicle operated by James A.Tyson, 35, of West Babylon, NY, for multiple traffic infractions near mile marker 42 southbound, state police said.

Troopers gained probable cause to search the vehicle and soon found the untaxed cigarettes inside, troopers said.

Both Tyson and another person inside the vehicle, Haywood W. Mitchell III, 47, of  Wyandanch, NY, were arrested and charged with possession and transport of more than 30,000 unstamped cigarettes, a felony.

The two were issued appearance tickets and released to appear in court in May.
