UAlbany junior men's lacrosse attackman Tehoka Nanticoke was named to the final watch list for the 2020 Tewaaraton Award, though the Tewaaraton Foundation announced Tuesday that due to the cancellation of the NCAA lacrosse season because of the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be no awards handed out this season.
The men's and women's Tewaaraton Awards were scheduled to be announced on May 28 in Washington, D.C., but the annual banquet has also been canceled.
“There is disappointment throughout college lacrosse and, in particular, those who are seniors who will not return. This was to be our 20th Tewaaraton Award Ceremony, and while we share in the disappointment, we also hope our achievement of 20 years following our first 2001 event serves as a reminder of how we will look ahead,“ said Jeffrey Harvey, chairman of the Tewaaraton Foundation, said in a news release announcing the cancellation. “We take this opportunity to acknowledge and honor all the 2020 graduates for their dedication and passion for the sport of lacrosse.”
Prior to the season's cancellation, Nanticoke had produced 19 goals and eight assists through UAlbany's five games. He had five goals each in the Great Danes' final three games.
Former UAlbany faceoff specialist TD Ierlan was also on the final watch list.
