LOUDONVILLE — Freshman Luke Sutherland has entered the NCAA transfer portal and will not return to the Siena men’s basketball team, the program confirmed Wednesday.

A 6-foot-7 freshman, Sutherland played in seven games as a Saint, scoring five points and grabbing seven rebounds in 34 minutes.

“I wish him nothing but the best,” Siena head coach Carmen Maciariello wrote in a text message to The Daily Gazette. “Tremendous young man from a great family.”
Sutherland is a graduate of West Genesee High School. He helped lead West Genesee to a Class AA state championship as a senior.

Last week, sophomore Georges Darwiche left the Siena program. With those departures, Siena has two open scholarships for the 2020-21 season.

The Saints finished 20-10 during the 2019-20 season. Siena won the MAAC’s regular-season title and was declared the league’s tournament champion after the tournament was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
