ALBANY -- The state Education Department on Tuesday posted a job opening for state education commissioner, with the search looking to fill the vacancy by September.
The posting, which published on the website of AGB Search, the firm leading the state's search, said the Board of Regents are seeking a “visionary, transformative, inclusive, equitable and decisive” leader to oversee that Education Department many responsibilities and 3,000-person staff.
“The Board of Regents seeks an individual with exceptional qualities of leadership, statesmanship and unquestionable integrity,” according to the job listing.
The posting called for prospective candidates to submit applications by June 8 and indicated “the new commissioner will assume office by or before September 2020.”
The Regents are looking to fill the vacancy left after former Education Commissioner MaryEllen Elia announced her resignation in July.
