STILLWATER -- A Stillwater 17-year-old has been charged in the death of an infant at a home, state police said Monday.
The 17-year-old, who was not identified due to his age, is accused of causing the death of a 15-month-old child. The victim also has not been identified.
The teenager was charged Saturday evening with one count of first-degree manslaughter.
State police did not elaborate Monday afternoon on what the 17-year-old is accused of doing to cause the child's death, but first-degree manslaughter is generally defined as when someone intends to cause serious physical injury to another person where the intended victim then dies.
The investigation began Saturday morning as the state police were called to assist Stillwater police with an investigation into the unresponsive infant, state police said. The infant was transported by ambulance to Saratoga Hospital, where the child was pronounced dead.
Stillwater police have since asked the state police to take over the investigation, which the state police have done.
The investigation was continuing Monday, state police said.
