BURNT HILLS — The 2020 Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Flag Day Parade, scheduled for Thursday, June 11, has been cancelled due to concerns about spreading the novel coronavirus, but a community celebration is nevertheless planned.

Instead, the organizing committee is asking residents living in the boundaries of the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake School District to decorate the outside of their homes with American flags and/or rainbows to pay tribute to the flag and demonstrate community unity.

At noon on Sunday, June 14, members of the parade organizing committee will drive through the community and award prizes for the best decorations. The public is also being encouraged to take their own tours, and post their favorites on social media.

"The committee struggled with ways to give the community something patriotic, fun and safe in keeping with the ever-changing COVID-19 protocols," the committee said in an announcement. "They didn't want Flag Day to go by without some sort of celebration and came up with an alternative event."

The parade is sponsored by the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Business & Professional Association, with help from the school district, the town of Ballston, the Burnt Hills Fire Department, and local business sponsorships.
