About a month after Billy Fuccillo received a key to the city of Schenectady, a city destination is playing a key role in his latest ads.
In recent weeks, a fresh crop of commercials featuring the ubiquitous car salesman have been making the rounds on airwaves. The spots include recognizable backdrops for many Capital Region residents, as they were filmed inside Rivers Casino & Resort.
Mayor Gary McCarthy presented Fuccillo with a key to the city in July, citing his charity work and employment of local residents. The presentation took place at the casino, where Fuccillo then rolled the cameras for his newest batch of commercials.
In one commercial, Fuccillo sings the praises of the city, saying “Schenectady is changing folks,” before transitioning into the benefits of purchasing a new or used car from one of his dealerships. It appears to take place in the Van Slyck’s entertainment lounge at Rivers.
In another ad, Fuccillo is joined by the casino’s general manager, Mary Cheeks, just outside the gaming floor’s high limit area. He asks her if she would be willing to change the “high limit” signage to say “huge limit.” She obliges.
He gives kudos to the casino while a promotion for The Landing Hotel flashes across the screen. The two then turn to the camera and utter the all-too-familiar catchphrase associated with Fuccillo: “It’s huuuuge."
